Antonio 'Tony' Guerrera

Antonio “Tony” Guerrera

Upon receiving a sponsorship in this country from their Uncle, the Guerrera family moved from Puglia, a province in southeastern Italy (picture the heel of the boot when you wonder where Puglia is situated in Italy) to Napa, California in 1962. He learned English at Napa College while working part time. In 1968 he and his brother saved enough money to buy Napoli Pizzeria from the Messina family. Tony and his wife Jean have dedicated countless hours to Napoli Pizzeria to bring the city of Vallejo high quality pizza and pasta year in and year out. Tony has been known to say many times to his family and patrons: “ I just love this place”. Although he has turned over daily operation of the business to his sons, Tony still maintains a very active presence at Napoli Pizzeria and makes hand-tossed pizzas with the best of his young pizza makers. Indeed, he is still the pizza master.

Anthony Guerrera Jr.

Anthony Guerrera Jr.

Anthony is Tony’s son and he maintains the daily operations at Napoli Pizzeria. His impressions of the business were forged from a very young age as he grew up in and around Napoli and watched his father work. During summer vacations he and his brothers lived above the restaurant with his grandparents. He was there literally every day in the summer.

Through family experiences and his travels in Italy, Anthony learned that so many of life’s moments were shared around the dinner table or during meals. He strongly believes that food and drink is often the centerpiece around which people come together and share life’s experiences. Anthony sees Napoli Pizzeria as a place where people in and about Vallejo come to interact with each other in the presence of food and drink. Anthony is driven to make his customers happy when they visit Napoli Pizzeria. His work ethic, and attention to detail translate into consistently high quality pizza and pasta products that come out of the kitchen. Anthony also realizes the importance of service. He constantly pushes himself and works with his staff to be just a little bit better, to do just a little more to create a memorable experience at Napoli Pizzeria.

Chris Guerrera

Chris Guerrera

Chris was tossing pizzas at Napoli Pizzeria right out of high school. He has many years of experience and was responsible for establishing our lunch business in 1992. Chris worked very hard at making lunch a success and it was especially challenging after Mare Island Naval Shipyard closed, but he willed lunch to be successful through his daily efforts. Today our lunch business thrives thanks to his efforts and the revitalization of Mare Island and downtown and waterfront areas of Vallejo. Chris went on to establish a second, very successful Napoli Pizzeria in Benicia in 1998. You can still find him behind the counter at Napoli Pizzeria on Tuesdays.

Cousin Anthony

Anthony Guerrera

Cousin Anthony moved from Connecticut to California in 2004. His family owned an Italian restaurant in Wolcott, Connecticut, and at a young age Anthony learned Italian cooking while watching his mother and father cook. In fact Anthony is very proud that his mom owns and operates her own pasta making company in Napa.

Anthony started working part time in 2004 but quickly established himself as a hard worker and someone who takes care of the customer. In 2006 Anthony was promoted to manager and with his insights and dedication to customer service, we feel very comfortable that the diner and staff are in good hands.

John Elser

John Elser

A long-time presence at Napoli Pizzeria, John came to Napoli just out of high school in 1978. He recalls that he came with a resume in hand and was wearing a tie. He was hired later that day. Tony asked John if he wanted to go home and change, but John stayed and later that evening was slicing meats and produce in his shirt and tie. Except for a five-year stint as an electrician on Mare Island Naval Shipyard, John has been with Napoli Pizzeria for the better part of 20 years.

If you watch him make pizzas while you wait, two words would probably come to mind when watching John work: frenetic and eclectic. John works fast and his pace is hard to match, but you can be sure that he knows what he is doing and you will get a great pizza from him. Although he works fast, John is a great multi-tasker and he is known for his conversation with waiting customers about any general topic while making their pizza. Some truly view him as their entertainment while they wait. Napoli Pizzeria is happy to have John; he is a vital part of our crew.
